Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice and IVF

I would not vote for a federal abortion ban. My stance on abortion is much like that of former President Clinton: I do not oppose it in the first trimester or in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother's life is at risk. However, I share the concerns of the majority of Americans regarding abortions in the second and third trimesters.

The more conservative views of my party, or sponsorship of legislation with stricter abortion regulations, do not change my position. In 2023, I was one of only 12 House Republicans to block my party’s agriculture spending bill because it would have banned the abortion pill mifepristone from being mailed and dispensed at retail pharmacies.

My Democratic opponents hold views on abortion that are far more extreme than those of the Democratic Party during Clinton or Obama's terms. They argue for no restrictions on abortion whatsoever, even up to the 40th week when the life of the mother is not at risk.

State-Level Concerns

The Supreme Court's decision overturning Roe v. Wade has returned abortion policy-making authority to state legislatures. In New York, this has led to troubling policies, including allowing abortions up until the moment of birth. As a father of three daughters, I find it concerning that New York State law does not require schools to notify parents when a student is pregnant and clinics do not have to inform parents before performing an abortion procedure. These aspects of our state's legislation neglect the fundamental role of parental involvement in such significant decisions.

I support the Hyde Amendment, ensuring federal tax dollars are not used for abortions. Until recently, this stance was also supported by figures like Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton.

IVF Access

I strongly oppose recent decisions threatening In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). I have championed measures to protect IVF access for families and urge elected officials at all levels to reject proposals that jeopardize its use.

It's time to move away from the extremes dominating the abortion discussion. I will continue to be a common-sense conservative voice, advocating for policies that reflect the values and concerns of the American people.
